Description but it was too many characters... So i'm just gonna post it!

*My Description but it won't fit fully... So I decided to just post it!

I'm a fifteen year old girl, anxious to get out into the world and discover new cultures and surroundings. I've lived in two countries so far, England and America, and that number is soon to become three. I'm studying abroad in Costa Rica for five months, starting on February 8th and ending on July 7th. My nerve-wracking yet exciting journey will be documented here, in this blog. I'm incredibly inexperienced with writing one of these things, and I hope that those who read it, will be aware of that. At times, I will come off extremely cheesy and rough with what I say, as I'm just going  to improvise and write freely. My love goes out to those who read it!

Orientation!

This post is a little late but last weekend AFS held an orientation for all people leaving soon to go study abroad! There were three of us. One girl is going to Russia and one guy is going to France, living near the Alps. They're both leaving on Wednesday, the 23rd of January! I spoke with both of them about the language... Neither of them have a large grasp on it. The girl speaks a little bit of Russian and the guy is in the same situation as me... 2 years of the language, and not very good conversational skills in the foreign speech.
Anyway, at the orientation they covered a lot of different things. They spoke about the background of AFS, and they actually have us a quiz on what we knew! I guess on pretty much everything as I knew hardly anything on the subject. I knew if stood for the American Field Service, which was started during one of the World Wars... There's so much to the organization that I'm not going to bore you with the details.
They also covered things about how to act when you arrive, and to remember to respect the lifestyle of the family. They told us the three golden rules:
• no driving, no matter what, or you will be sent home
• no drugs (obey the laws of your country)
• no hitchhiking
They spoke about what is most noticeable about the culture when you first arrive, and how it's like an iceberg... There's always more to the culture and you ind out more, the longer you stay. Some of the more noticeable aspects would be the music, food, and religion. Some things that are less noticeable would include their humor, the family roles, and the lifestyle.
AFS told us some other things but really, the biggest thing that I'm worried about would be the language, an fitting in. I hope I'm able to make friends easily and to be able to come back from my trip, fully acquired with the ability to speak Spanish.
My Spanish teacher wants me to try and Skype my class... To speak some Spanish with them! I'm excited but afraid that ill be lacking on the Spanish! The expectations are killing me! But I'm really gonna try. I'm promising myself not to get caught up on the language and just embrace the school that I attend, the friends that I make, and hopefully, eventually the Spanish will come too.

I must take lots of pictures also!
3 weeks left! Then I leave for the "happiest place on earth"! LETS DO THIS 😁😄

Bit More About Myself and Getting Ready

Getting Ready!

I've got my little Spanish to English translation packets and
the date is getting closer! I'm incredibly excited. I've just got to do some shopping as I have learnt that the fashion in Costa Rica is quite different from the normal style here in the US. Girls here wear short shorts and are not afraid to show off their legs 😂. However in Costa Rica, girls are encouraged to wear long shorts or jeans a lot... To refrain from showing too much skin below the waist. On the other hand, you can freely wear any tops. I heard its also common for the men to whistle out to you on the streets and make comments. I was told its best to just ignore the remarks. In London men beep at you and call out to you as a joke so I am quite used to ignoring these remarks.

Right, so I said that I would share a bit more about myself... I absolutely love music and am open to all genres a part from hard rock and screamo... They're both a bit too aggressive for me 😋. I I'm a songwriter and I play a little bit of the piano for my songs. I performed one of my own over the summer for the first time... It was a great experience and I learnt a lot about what I have to work on. I hope to perform again sometime soon .

Here's a photo of a spring in Liberia, Costa Rica!! Not that I took of course... The Internet is a great resource for researching where ill be staying.

My First Post! Rough and Cheesy

Starting my blogging! 2013!

Happy new year to everyone!

This is my first blog. I've never done anything like this before... let's hope it's interesting. I'm going to start out just telling you about myself. I'm currently a 15 year old girl who is a sophomore in high school. I grew up in London until the age of 11, I then moved to Arizona. Random, right?! Well, my mum is actually American and was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She met my dad (who's English) while she was traveling and they eventually decided to reside in London. They then had me and my two older brothers, Barnaby (19 years old) and Dylan (18 years old). My brothers, my mum and I all left London after it got too expensive to live there and my parents got a divorce. My brothers are both extremely protective of me as well as being a pain in the butt... I love them anyway.
Barnaby attends Occidental College in Las Angeles while Dylan goes to St. Mary's College in San Francisco. They both are very athletic and play rugby. I'm also athletic but don't really have a specific sport I play. I love to sprint mostly in track.
I think this was a good place to start my blog at and I'll add on some things later on in the week but I just think I should cover what I'm going to be writing solely about in the coming months.

I am leaving my humble abode here in Scottsdale, Arizona to go on an adventure in Costa Rica. I will be there for approximately 5 months, staying with a family in Liberia. I'll be attending a school there and (hopefully) learning the beautiful language of Spanish. While I'm experiencing the new culture, society, people and education, I'll be writing a blog each week to share my journeys with the people who want to listen! I'll also be posting tons of pictures! With help from instagram, they'll look professional and spectacular ;)

I know this was quite a cheesy and rough start to blogging. Surely, I'll improve :)
